Create overlays
This article describes what an overlay is and what advantages overlays offer!
An overlay is a special type of slide that you can open above the current slide by clicking on it while presenting. The opened overlay can be closed with another click on a previously defined area. This area is usually a kind of "X" in the upper right corner. An overlay is used to provide an additional layer of information that can be accessed/clicked but does not have to be.
Unlike normal slides, you cannot insert overlays into presentations. An overlay can only be included in a presentation by linking it to a slide. If this slide is in the presentation, it can be opened with one click.
Why overlays?
With the help of overlays you can store detailed information in presentations and only call them up when they are needed. They let you act flexibly during a presentation.
Slides as overlays
Normal slides can also be linked as overlays, these are then displayed above the current slide. The appearance of a slide as overlay is predefined. A close symbol is added and the slide is slightly scaled down. So you don't have to create an extra overlay for every content.
If you need a certain layout for an overlay, you have to create your own template for it in the desired template set.
Overlay Templates
An overlay template differs in only one thing from templates for slides: the background template contains an area that is defined as the "overlay close button". This area can be used to close the overlay during the presentation. If a background template has such an area all slides you create with this background will become an overlay.
Create overlays
An overlay is created exactly like a slide by clicking on "New" and "Create new slide". When selecting the template you have to choose an overlay template. These are marked with a special icon. Then you have the same editing options as for slides. More about how to create overlays can be found here: Create & link overlays
