Headlines:
The demo content in Templates has been completely revised! Now dummy text can already be inserted in the Layout Template, which can then also be used to create a new Slide. The administrators can decide for the platform whether demo content should always, never or be taken over by the user into new Slides.
The Slides are therefore not empty when created, but are already pre-filled! And also the preview images of the Layout Templates are then filled with this content and thus it is more obvious how the slide should or will look in the end.
In this short video we will show you how it's done!
Why Demo Contents?
Demo contents are created in Layout Templates and offer several advantages:
The content is used for the preview images of the Layouts (visible in the Template Set and when selecting a Template for a Slide). This makes it easier to see how the final slide will look when a template is selected and filled. This also makes it easier to see possible formatting options or allowed content.
In addition, a newly created slide is not empty but already pre-filled with content. This makes it easier for the user, who is not so familiar with the templates or has created them himself, to understand which text field is intended or suitable for which information, for example.
If a user still wants to have an empty slide, the demo content can be deleted with one click (trash can icon on the right side in the tools).
Configurations
Administrators can decide in the settings for the entire platform whether the demo content from the Layout Templates should be used when creating new Slides. To do this, go to the settings under the configurations. There you have the following options:
- Demo content is always applied when a new slide is created (1)
- the user can decide if the demo content should be used for a new slide (2) or
- the demo content is never taken over, but only used for the preview images (3).
Create Demo Contents
To add demo content, first go to the Content Structure, select a Template Set and open a Layout Template without demo content.
Then either click on the ghost icon to the right of the tools or double-click in one of the sections in the Template.
From now on you have the same options as in a Slide and can start the prefill. To switch between Template editing and demo content editing, you can either use the tools on the right or double-click in one of the sections. Only for text sections you have to double click the turquoise border, because a double click in the text field can be used to select.
Only the text formatting options are visible in both modes, as these are the most commonly used. Here you can set the font, color, size, alignment and various spacing without returning to template mode. You can find more about this here: Create Layout Templates
On the top left there is a note about the demo content and how it is used. You can close this with the x and open it again at any time by clicking on the ? symbol.
Click Save at the end. This will regenerate the preview image of the template (may take a few seconds) with the demo content.
Delete Demo Contents
As soon as you have created demo content in a template and save the Layout, the preview image of the Layout is generated with the corresponding content.
If you don't want this, for example because you only want to use the content in the layout to test formatting, you must delete the demo content for this template before you save. To do this, click on the right of the two ghost icons and then save. This will remove all demo content for this template.
Use Demo Content in Slides
Demo content can be used so that the slides are not empty when they are newly created. Especially with more complex templates this can be a great help for the users. When changing a layout, however, the demo content is not taken over, because your already filled content should not be overwritten.
In order to be able to use the demo content in Slides, you must first set the configurations to adopt demo content. More about this above.
Demo content is only applied when creating a new slide. Click on "New" in the Content Structure and select "Create new Slide". Alternatively, you can also create a new slide in a presentation.
Then select a Template Set where demo content has already been inserted.
Now you can choose a Layout. You can already see that demo content was used here because the preview images were created with it. This gives you a better impression of the Slide that is to be created with the Layout.
If you have set the configurations to allow the user to decide whether the content should be taken from the Layout, you have to check the box "Take demo content" at the top of the page.
Select a Layout by clicking it.
Your Slide is now pre-filled and you can start exchanging the content one by one. Overwrite texts, replace images and so on. If you want to delete all your content in the Slide, you can always use the trash can icon on the right.
