Our new “Scan & Show” module opens up completely new possibilities at trade fairs and in showrooms! Using NFC chips or barcodes, miniature models and 3D prints can not only be touched, but also used to interactively open up content in presono or control presentations. Whether product views, technical details, performance overviews, or navigation elements—this interactive approach merges the real and digital worlds. The presono kiosk mode thus becomes an even more powerful tool for marketing and sales!
If you are interested, please contact your presono contact person directly or write to us at info@presono.com. We will be happy to inform you about the hardware you need (which scanner and which NFC tags).
Permissions
There are two permissions for Scan & Show:
- Manage Scan & Show
- Use Scan & Show
Both permissions can be found under group permissions.
When managing, users will see a new tab in the settings where they can create new codes or change or delete existing ones.
When using Scan & Show, the user is permitted to utilize Scan & Show—meaning that when the user is logged in, a scanner can be connected and all content defined here in Scan & Show can be shown.
Please note: even if the user does not have access to a slide or presentation via the regular permissions, they can still gain access this way.
Add new codes
To add a new code, click on “Add code” in the top right corner.
A new item will appear in your list on the left with the respective details on the right.
In the details, you will find three sections:
- the code (barcode or NFC code)
- notes for yourself so that you can later see directly in the overview which code/link it is
- the actual link—i.e., what happens when the code is scanned.
To fill in the code, you can either use your keyboard or connect the scanner to your PC and scan the chip/code when you are in the section.
You can write whatever you want in the notes—for example, “Product slide for product XYZ” or “Language switch EN.” Whatever you enter in the notes will also be included in the search.
The link provides you with all the options available in a slide for linking content in presono—you can find all the details here: Linking Possibilities at a Glance. As usual, the content structure opens, where you can use filters and search to find and select the content you want (by double-clicking or using “insert”).
This allows you to determine which action is performed when the corresponding code is scanned—either content (slide, overlay, presentation) can be shown, or various other actions can be performed, such as closing an overlay, a classic “home button” (to the first slide), or opening an external website.
Once you have set a link, the icon on the left in the overview will change so that it is always clear what happens when the corresponding code is scanned.
Add more links if you want to or change some existing ones now. In the end, click on “Save” in the right bottom corner.
Search
If you are looking for a specific code, you can use the search function at the top. This will search both the codes and the notes.
Our tip: connect the scanner directly to your laptop and scan the tag/code so you don't have to type it in – you can do this in the search function, but also when editing a code or creating a new one.
When searching for an element, pay attention to the icons on the left, which indicate which link is on the code.
The list is also sorted by code after each save – so as you can see here, the list starts with the code 5, followed by 6, etc.
Changing
To change an item, select it from the list on the left and you will see the details on the right.
If you change several items, they will be marked with a small turquoise dot in the list and a corresponding note will appear below next to the Save button.
If you want to change an existing link, simply click on the slide/overlay/presentation icon and then link the new content. You don't have to remove the current link first. In the details, you can see which content is currently linked.
Pro tip: here you can see not only the title but also the ID of the linked element – are you familiar with the ID search? No? Then take a look!
Changes can of course also be discarded:
Your code can also be saved even if no link has been defined yet. This allows you to save all your tags/codes now and assign their functions later. Tip: Write a corresponding note here so that you can search for it later.
Delete
If you want to delete an item, you can either use the bin icon in the list or the “Remove element” button in the detailed view.
The item is then marked for removal and is only actually deleted when you save. Until then, you can still restore it using the button in the detailed view or the list.
Present
Once you have created and saved all the codes, you can simply access the registered content during your presentation by scanning the codes using Scan & Show. Cool, right? Please ensure that your user has permission to use Scan & Show.
Simply connect your reader to your device (PC, laptop, mini PC) via USB and start a presentation. It doesn't matter which presentation you start or whether you are online or offline.
Of course, with this module you can also combine all other features, modules and advantages of presono as you wish – for example, use kiosk mode or a vertical format presentation. Use a touch screen where you can simply click on further details on the slide opened up via NFC/barcode – the possibilities are endless!
